

John Russell Breckenridge peacefully died Sunday Feb. 27, 2011. Born November 19, 1928 to Catherine and Russell Breckenridge, he is survived by Gloria his beloved wife of 64 years; his children, Craig Breckenridge, wife Laurie; Robb Breckenridge, wife Cher; Laurie Hanna, husband Cameell and Heather Brush and her husband Brad. He will be missed by his grandchildren; Buffy Leigh VanDyke, Keeley Stempin, Robin Mancinelli, Megan Faber, Katy Wereley, Cameell Hanna, Emily Drake, Kyle Breckenridge, Carly Hanna and Haley Brush. He will also be missed by his 6 great-grandchildren; Abby, Kellan, Luke, Finlay, Ella and Gabriel. He will be missed by his sister Celia Krausmann and her husband Dick. John and Gloria moved to Grosse Pointe Woods in 1958. They built the house that they loved and lived in for 47 years in 1961. His other love was spending time at their cottage on Georgian Bay in the small town of Lion's Head, his mother's birthplace. His family will always have fond memories of their time spent there. John followed in his father's footsteps and became a horseshoer after leaving the Merchant Marines in 1948. Together with his father and two sons they continued shoeing horses until 1978. At that time John and his two sons transitioned Russell Breckenridge Company into a forging business that manufactured horseshoes and automotive parts. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 12 at 11 am at First English Lutheran Church, 800 Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, 48236. A luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Donations may be made to First English Lutheran Church Building Fund.
