Due to Covid -19 restrictions and out of concern for the health and safety of extended family and friends, the family has decided on a private service for immediate family only at this time.  Â
All who were fortunate enough to call Jack family or friend knew one thing, Jack loved a good party. Whether it was a holiday gathering with his big family, the card party weekend at Houghton Lake with his brothers, sons and nephews or a small get together with friends, Jack was the life of the party. His presence, humor and laughter were infectious and they filled the room or backyard with pure fun and joy. Jack was the guy that you met at a gathering or bumped into at the Irish pub and before you parted, you were friends. What kinder gesture to offer another than to be called friend.Â
Jack served his country in the Navy during the Korean War. Afterwards, he was able to take advantage of the GI bill to graduate from the University of Detroit with degree in Business Administration, Magna Cum Laude. Jack had a long career with IBM, retiring after 30 years of service as a systems engineer. After retirement he worked with his four sons for 20 years as the IT specialist at the family business, Dwyer Marble and Stone Supply. Pursuit of education and academic excellence were important lessons he taught his children and grandchildren.Â
Most importantly, Jack was a man of faith and character who was deeply committed to family, friends and community. He enjoyed serving others by donating his time and talents to St. Patrick’s Senior Center and Parish in Detroit for 40 years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of United Irishmen (FOUI’s), a group dedicated to promoting St. Pat’s many programs to support Detroit’s seniors. He also loved singing in their choir, The Chowder Society, with his fellow FOUI’s.Â
Jack was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He taught us the meaning of values, empathy and kindness. He showed us how to live a good life and what it meant to care for others.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Anna Dwyer and his siblings; James, Mary, William, Elizabeth, Richard and Michael. Beloved husband of Lucille. Proud and loving father of John (Carol), Tim (Jennifer), Joe (Kendel), Drs. Susan Ernst (Rob) and Todd (Jill). Proud grandfather of Erin, Ryan, John, Sarah, Maggie, Aidan, Owen, Holden, Campbell, Hannah, Caleb, Sophia and Nathan and 3 great grandchildren; Luca, Mia and Austin Grace.
