John C. Hayes

Longtime Grosse Pointe Woods resident John C. Hayes passed away suddenly on Thursday, July 26th 2018. He was born on April, 23rd 1936 in Detroit, MI to Irene and C. John Hayes. He attended St Ambrose elementary school and high school. John earned an undergraduate degree in philosophy from the University of Detroit. He also earned a J.D. from the University of Detroit School of Law. He was employed as an attorney at AAA and then went on to join the law firm of Lacey & Jones, LLP, where he practiced personal injury law. He was a member of the Michigan State Bar Association and was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He was a longtime member of the Detroit Athletic Club, where he was an active bowler. He also liked to regularly attend the Grosse Pointe Senior Mens Club meetings. He is survived by his wife Marilyn, his son Kevin Hayes, and his brother James. His daughter Lauren Hayes preceded him in death. He will be remembered for his kind generosity and witty sense of humor. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM with a scripture service at 7 PM at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods, 48236. A memorial will take place on Saturday from 9:30 AM until time of memorial Mass 10 AM at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford Rd, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI 48236. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions to the American Heart Association and Humane Society of Michigan are appreciated.
