John was a good friend and one of the nicest people I know.

Uncle John was everything to me. He was a listener, a carer, a guiding hand, a loving embrace, and most definitely, a “knucklehead.” 
Uncle John never failed to make me smile when I was down, and was always there for me through every up and down of my life. He was the person who’d cheer you on in your peaks, and be the strong rock in your valleys. 
To a little girl with a troubled relationship with her father (aka: me), Uncle John played such a significant role in my childhood. 
I looked forward to seeing him at each family gathering and each time I went to spend a few days with him and Auntie. His hugs gave me a comfort I never experienced from anyone else. His jokes and jabs were always one of the best parts of getting together with the family. 
I am so unbelievably heart broken Uncle John won’t be able to see me fully bloom into adulthood with my new baby and fiancé. My heart also breaks for my aunt because she also means so very much to me and I hate seeing my family hurt. Uncle John’s opinion on my major life choices was all that really mattered to me. I was taking my then boyfriend (now fiancé) to meet Auntie and Uncle John for the first time and I said to him, “if Uncle John doesn’t like you... i dunno what we’re going to do.” I wanted Uncle John’s approval and I just wanted to make him proud the way a father would be. 
There is no describing the sadness I feel. The fear for the change in our family. It breaks my heart to know our family gatherings will never be the same. How could it be? My Uncle John could never ever be replaced. His soul is so friendly, loving, and jolly. I hope he’s up in heaven with my grandpa and his mom smiling his contagious smile. 
When I wake up in the morning with a head of sloppy hair, I’ll know it’s Uncle John plopping his heavy hand on my head (like he often would) and move it around (to my delightful irritation) to mess up my hair.
I miss him so much and I will always love him beyond words.

Words cannot say enough about this great American I will always remember John Kizer as a TRUE friend and he will never be forgotten for he was always helping others and his legacy will be just that I am a better person because of John Kizer he cannot be replaced.

So many memories...so much shared....laughter and tears...good times and bad.  Your strong loving presence in my life had such a beautiful impact.  The ripple effects of that in the lives of my kids is immeasurable.  Thank you for being my brother and my friend.  For always loving me, even at my worst.  When I think of what I miss the most...just knowing you are there.....your strong loving presence.
I know you are smiling now & having a good laugh with Grampy.

A true friend who would always include me in his life experiences. A man of honor, respect and patience. For all the laughs, cigars and fine spirits we have shared. You have taught me well. I am glad you included me in your circle of close friends. God Speed my friend.

John was my neighbor and always my friend.   I remember as a 5 year old he got me started on a two wheel bike.  Just keep pumping your legs.   That was 51 years ago.  In the past 10 years or so we had reunited as Christian friends and brothers and our mothers were close friends!  You will be missed my friend 😢

From Rodney Dangerfield to the pussycat of the family, John was very special. We knew that from the day he was brought home from the hospital. Oh my! Mom sure had her hands full not only with us other kids, but, John?!? He was determined to explore anything and everything as a toddler and has never stopped. Nothing could hold him back, until the death of his Mama recently. He had promised our Dad that he would forever watch over Mama, he had proclaimed the night before he left us, to his nephew Chris, that his job was done. Oh my!! Dear brother...you are so deeply loved and even more deeply missed---no words can convey how I feel--I remain in God's hands...until we are reunited.

Never saw John without a smile on his face or not ready to share a snicker at a bad joke. John had a great sense of humor. Always enjoyed his company over a nice cigar and a cocktail, especially when sharing a Sunday watching "his" Cheese Heads. You'll be missed old friend!
