Joseph J. Russo

Joseph J. Russo, D.O., age 82 of Detroit, passed away at Detroit Receiving Hospital on Saturday, January 5, 2013. He was born to Salvatore and Rose (nee Fiore) Russo in Asbury, New Jersey on Saturday, May 17, 1930. Dr. Russo received his undergraduate degree from Wayne State University; Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. From there he pursued a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago School of Osteopathy. Mr. Russo began his career as a Pharmacist until becoming an independent Physician. He is beloved by many patients that he cared for over the years. He was also a member of the NRA and the Church of Christ for many years. Dr. Russo was fun-loving with a sarcastic wit. He was an avid football fan and enjoyed playing cards and chess. He also loved cars, his favorite being a Datsun 280ZX. Beloved husband of Willodean for 58 years. Loving father of Constance and her husband, Aldo F. Colandrea, Joseph J. Russo Jr. and William J. Russo. Proud grandfather of Evan G. Grant and Ginger Grant-Wallace. Dear Uncle of Valerie and her husband, Michael Kulka. Dr. Russo is dearly loved by his family, friends and patients and will be deeply missed. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 from 2:00pm until 9:00pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Funeral services will take place Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 10:00am at the funeral home. Brother Bill Thomas will officiate. Interment Friday, January 11, 2013 at White Chapel Cemetery.
