

Josephine Collette Kearns, age 88, died suddenly September 15, 2009 in St. Clair Shores. Collette was born September 17, 1920 in Ireland, the daughter of Thomas and Bridget Duffy. In 1954 she immigrated to the United States and soon after met Joseph Kearns. They married in October of 1957 at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Detroit. Joseph died in 1971. Through her life, Collette worked as a cashier at the Parke-Davis Company in Detroit. She retired in 1988 after 20 years. Next she began working as a companion to residents of the Georgian East Nursing Home in St. Clair Shores form 1988 until 2001. She was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. She was proud of her Irish heritage and loved to travel back to Ireland. Her last trip home was in June 2009. Collette was proud of her family, both immediate and extended. She lived life to the fullest, falling two days short of her 89th birthday. She is survived by her son Michael; grandchildren, Sean, Brent, Jenna and Colleen; sisters Kathleen Brady and Patricia Creamer, her daughter-in-law Michele Lombardo and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 3-9 pm Thursday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 pm Thursday. On Friday her body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake, St. Clair Shores from 9:30 am until time of mass at 10:00 am. Monsignor G. Michael Burgarin will be the celebrant. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township will follow. Memorial contributions to the Capuchins, 1820 Mt. Elliott, Detroit, MI 48207 would be appreciated.
