Joyce Haigh

Constance "Joyce" Haigh, age 86 of Grosse Pointe Shores, passed away in Detroit on Saturday, December 22, 2012. She was born to Ferris and Marion (nee Hodges) Fitch in Detroit on Sunday, June 13, 1926. Joyce graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. From there, she received her Associate's degree from Monticello College. She briefly worked for Hudson Motors as a secretary; however, her main passion was her family. Her life's work was as a dedicated and compassionate homemaker. Joyce was also an accomplished artist and was a member of the Grosse Pointe Artists Association for many years. Joyce is survived by her husband, Donald. They were married in Christ Church in Grosse Pointe on Wednesday, December 29, 1948. They began as high school sweethearts and were married nearly 64 years. Joyce and Donald are a true love story. They were each other's care givers and have remained best friends throughout the decades. Her care and devotion for Donald was unwavering and it was unmistakable that he loved her more than anything. Loving mother of Barbara (nee Haigh) Duncan and Gordon H. Haigh. Proud grandmother of Bryan (Alicia) Duncan, Paula (Chris) Warrington, Sara Haigh and Stuart Haigh. Dear sister of Roger Fitch and the late Ferris "Bud" Fitch, Barbara Rowen and Randy Fitch. Joyce is also survived by many caring nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and relatives will remember Joyce as being the nicest and sweetest lady. She touched the lives of everyone she met. She is dearly loved and will be deeply missed. A memorial service celebrating Joyce's life will take place at a later date.
