

Juanita B. Sholly, age 82, died peacefully at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit on June 22, 2011. She was born on July 17, 1928 in Waco, Tennessee; the daughter of Raymond and Zula Davis. She was born in her grandmother's home, a house without running water, electricity and in the country without a road. At age 13 her family moved to the lower eastside of Detroit so her father could work in the auto factories. When the war broke out, her family returned to Tennessee, but Juanita stayed in Detroit and eventually graduated from Southeastern High School in 1947. Juanita Davis married Robert Sholly in 1949. She was a full time homemaker and mother who maintained a simple lifestyle. She was always there for her children and later her grandchildren and was actively involved in their lives. She enjoyed shopping, homemaking, baking and entertaining. Juanita was also very active at her church, St. Thomas Lutheran in Eastpointe. She was a member of the Ladies Guild and helped in the church's library. Juanita is survived by her children Karen Dolan (Mike) and David Sholly (fianc, Pam Gower); her grandchildren, Rachel, Daniel, Kathleen, Raymond and Paul; greatgrandchildren, Ellie, Owen and Jacob and two brothers, Fred Davis (Frankie) and Larry Davis. She was predeceased by her husband Robert in 2003. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Mrs. Sholly will lie instate at St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 23801 Kelly Rd, Eastpointe from 10 am Saturday until time of funeral, 11 am. Rev. Mark W. Hetzner will officiate. Interment will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township. The family has requested memorial donations be made to St. Thomas Lutheran Church, 23801 Kelly Rd, Eastpointe, Michigan 48021.
