Katherine Daune MacMaster

MACMASTER, Katherine Daune (Munroe) – 53, Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, passed away peacefully Sunday, January 23, 2022 with her family present. She was the daughter of Donis Munroe (died May 6, 2009) and Elizabeth Munroe (Green), Valley, Nova Scotia. She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Gordon MacMaster and her daughter Mhairi and sons Rory and Ronan, all of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan; her sister Phyllis Munroe, Brampton, Ontario and brother Michael, Valley, Nova Scotia. Katherine grew up in Valley, Nova Scotia. As a child she developed a love for photography, gardening, and arts and crafts. She really enjoyed making things as gifts for family and friends and did so all her life. She received a Diploma from Algonquin College and a Degree from Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. In 1992 she married her High School sweetheart. She worked as Business Analyst in Ottawa. In 1998 she and her husband established their own consulting company which they ran for 10 years. She was also a District Commissioner for Girl Guides. They had three children, a daughter and twin boys, which were Katherine’s greatest joy. The family immigrated to Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan in 2008. Katherine dedicated herself to being Mom and stopped working. She soon learned she had a rare, autoimmune illness. For the next twelve years she dedicated her time and energy to her family and her health. She recently became an active advocate for Rare Diseases, speaking to Senators and Congressmen at the State and Federal levels about her experiences. She fought hard and stayed positive to the very end. All are invited to A.H. Peters Funeral Home, Grosse Pointe Woods, on Friday, January 28th from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm for a Visitation. A prayer service will be held at 6:30 pm. Katherine’s Funeral Mass will be held January 29th at 10:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Church, St. Clair Shores. The Liturgy will be livestreamed at the www.facebook.com/sjascscatholic and www.livestream.stjoan.church.
