

Kenneth Richard Walker, age 78, died peacefully at Forest View Assisted Living in Brownstown on January 16, 2012 after a very lengthy illness. He was born in Grosse Pointe on September 12, 1933 to his parents Stephen and Celine Walker. He had lived in Grosse Pointe throughout his entire life. Kenneth graduated from St. Ambrose High School of Grosse Pointe with the class of 1951. After he graduated, he attended Kemper Military School & College. Later, he proudly became part of the United States Army. While in the Service, Kenneth held the job of dismantling missiles. In 1955, while he was stationed at Soldier Field in Chicago, he met Mary Ellen. They later got married on February 2, 1957. Kenneth and Mary Ellen were married for 40 years, until the time of her death in 1998. Upon returning from the Service, Kenneth attended a building trade school and became a journeyman. He was employed with several different construction companies throughout the years, as well as a union rep during the 1970's. Kenneth became an organizer with the Building Construction Trade Union. Kenneth was an avid hunter and fisherman. Each year, he and his buddies would make the trip to northern Michigan. In 1992, Kenneth became disabled with Parkinson's disease. He had been courageously battling the disease for 20 years. Kenneth is survived by his children Mary Celine, Shiobhan (Bradley) Clary, Stephen (Geneva), and Sean (Amy). He was a proud grandfather of Brandon and Patrick Clary, Stephen Jr. and Brian Walker, also Brodie Shane and Kenzie Walker. He is survived by his siblings; Patricia (Robert) Fox, Betty (late Lou) Raguso, and Ronald (Joyce) Walker. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday and Friday from 3:00pm to 9:00pm with a Rosary Service will be held 7:00pm Friday at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave. at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Kenneth will lie in state at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack, St Clair Shores, on Saturday from 9:30am until the Mass at 10:00am. The service will be officiated by Monsignor G. Michael Bugarin.
