

L. James "Jim" Manor passed away on July 15th at Shorepointe Nursing Care Center in St. Clair Shores. He was 84. Mr. Manor was born on August 26, 1925; son of Lawrence James Manor Sr., and Mary (nee Gagnon) Manor. He was a graduate of St. Rose High School in Detroit. Jim served our country proudly in the United States Navy during WWII. He served on the USS Kiersage and the USS Mission Bay. He was a AMMIC (Aviatin Machinest 1st class) Unit VTM53 and served as a gunner and mechanic on Grumman's TBF's and TBM's. He had a Land and Sea, multi-engine ATR (Air Transport Rating). After the war he was a commercial pilot for Richwing Corp., Bower Roller Bearing Co. (Federal Mogul), Long Transportation, and the E.F. MacDonald Co. He started his own company, Enterprise Equipment Co., in 1966 dealing in heat treating equipment. Mr. Manor was very active in the community. He belonged to the American Legion Post 0086, Elks - Detroit Lodge, and was a third and fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to two pilot organizations: The Quiet Birdmen (Q.B.'s), and the OX5 Aviation Pioneers. Jim married his beloved Kathleen Ganther on May 9th, 1959 at Chorpus Christi Church in Dayton, Ohio. They enjoyed over fifty blessed years together. He was the proud father of Mary Ellen Haas (Fred), Timothy Manor (Kim), and Margaret Manor. He adored his grandchildren Lauren, Bridgette, Jennifer, Lawrence James III, and Raymond. He was born the 6th of ten children; survived by his sister Mary Grobbel. Visitation will be held on Sunday July 18th from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A Rosary will be recited at 7:30 pm. Mr. Manor will lie in state on Monday July 19th from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church 467 Fairford, Grosse Pointe Woods. Military Honors will be performed at the conclusion of the Mass. He will be interred at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp.
