Born on May 23, 1938, Larry grew up with a sense of duty and determination that would guide his life. At 18, he enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany during the early 1950s. After an injury shifted his path, Larry became a truck driver, a career he stuck with through his military service and long after. He drove for Coca-Cola for many years, with a brief stop at Pepsi, before retiring in 1999.
Not long after returning from the Army, Larry met the love of his life, Joan, at a dance. They married on September 5, 1959, and built a life filled with devotion and partnership. From Hamtramck to Detroit, and eventually St. Clair Shores, their journey was one of love, family, and community. Joan was truly Larry’s world. Whether it was taking her shopping, driving her to see friends, or simply being her steady companion, Larry’s love for Joan shone in every act of care.
Larry’s love extended just as deeply to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He never missed a game, a milestone, or a chance to lend a helping hand. Even when he was “supposed to be relaxing,” he could be found fixing, building, or simply spending time with family. His pride as a father and grandfather was evident to all who knew him.
Larry also had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs and cats. He kept jars of treats by both the front and garage doors, always ready for neighborhood pets who might pass by. He also took great pride in caring for his lawn, always making sure it looked just right. He and Joan also shared a love for travel, from lively trips to Las Vegas with friends to treasured family vacations in Myrtle Beach that stretched for weeks and marked the close of each summer.
Larry’s life was defined by loyalty, kindness, and a steady devotion to the people he loved. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and unwavering care that his family and friends will carry with them always.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
