Michael J. Eckert

Michael John Eckert, born in Detroit on February 7, 1986, passed away November 17, 2017 at the age of 31. Mike had a way of making people feel good. He could walk into a room and instantly lighten the mood. He would go out of his way to greet you and ask "How you doing? You doing alright?" It was in part because of his rare and wonderful ability to make everyone feel like they mattered to him, even complete strangers. Whether he was watching the races at Hazel Park Race Track or walking along the Detroit riverfront, Mike was sure to make a few new friends and come home with a great story to tell. His best days were being surrounded by his family, friends, and great love, Nikki. Those days would also have included good music, good jokes, and a good game on TV. Always a big fan of Detroit sports, he would be proudly wearing his teams colors. Little did Mike know, we were his greatest fans. Mike was funny and genuinely interested in everyone. He brought something special into every room he walked into. Anyone who met Mike could easily see this was a man with a heart of gold. A vibrant soul who brought joy and much laughter to this world. We will miss the stories he told, the laughs he gave us, and the feel-good energy he carried around with him. Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Mike is survived by his loving girlfriend Nikki Bretz of 15 years, adoring parents; John and Michele, loving siblings; Alysha (Greg Conrad) Eckert, Taylor Trombley, Brandon Eckert, Angela (Timothy) McCarty and Justin (Ashley) Finlay, cherished nieces and nephews; Malyna, Lawsyn, Zachary, Samantha, Adrianna, Shawn, Kaiden and Kaylee, his caring grandparents; Don and Kathy Krezenski, his treasured dog; Leia as well as many caring aunts and uncles. He is predeceased by his grandparents; John and Eleanor Eckert. Mikes family will receive friends on Friday, November 24th from 2:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 32000 Schoenherr at Masonic, Warren. A funeral ceremony will take place on Saturday, November 25th at 10:00 A.M. at the funeral home.
