I cried  looking through old pictures I might have of Mike at Judy’s request but was heartened to find so many and certainly had more tears as I saw them all on his tribute video. Michael was my dearest of friends who always put “the other fellow first”.  He was  simply the best kind of friend and I will miss him.  Katy Groesbeck

To My Dear, Brother Michael, Although it says "Share a memory",  this is a combination of sharing with others and my Prayer to You: "May you ride your bright, beautiful, Schwinn Orange Crate so long and so far you outlast the brightness of the Sun". Especially knowing there is no better bike mechanic. Love You Forever.

So sorry to hear this sad news.  I went to college with Mike at Western Michigan.  Actually, when he left Western to attend Boston College, I moved into his room at 126 W. Vine street in Kalamazoo with Tom Marantette, Katy Zurschmiede and Chris Hanson.  I probably saw more of Mike after our college days.   I remember him to be a super nice guy and he and Judy were a terrific couple.  My condolences to the entire family.

Heartbroken to hear Mike passed away.  He was one of the great ones.  Deepest condolences for your loss.  Mike was my boss at my first “real” job after law and business school, but was so much more than that.  He was very much a real mentor, friend, and life-saver to me and my young family.  He taught me invaluable lessons about work, career, and family that will bless me for a lifetime.  In some small ways he was like a father figure to me, a young man at the start of his career and family, and his help at the job and sage advice about everything from accounting, kids, home ownership, working with others, life balance, doing the right thing, and more were really such a great help for me and my family at that time.  I can never repay him for all he did for me.  He was always very humble, extremely wise, and had a masterfully witty humour.  One of the many memories I have of him was that he had an old, very simple little nameplate on his desk you would never notice unless you paid attention which read “honest accountant” on it.  I thought it was interesting once I finally noticed it and so I asked him about it and he told me, “that wasn’t very easy to get actually.”  The older I get the more I realize how right he was.  He truly was one of the great ones.  He will be missed.  Again, deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers for your family.

Thanks Mike for getting me a job at Bill’s. ( Bikeshop). And the job of cutting the back lawn ( Charlie’s lawn) on Kensington then to play Whiffle ball or “Home run derby” with Scott and/ or John. I remember and I still hear you saying,  “ there are a lot of people in this neighborhood that would like to cut my lawn.”  Also later your Dad’s  “John R‘s”recommendation read something like, “A” students are the doctors, “B” are the lawyers, and “C” students make it rich. Well I am rich with a lot......thanks Starrs’.

My sincerest sympathy to your family for your loss.  Mike and I were fellow coworkers at Honigman.  I shared many conversations with Mike about our common interest in both Steuben glass/crystal and antiquing. Judy, Katie, and Matt.  I am so sorry for your loss and you are in my prayers.  I worked for Mike for number of years early in my career. He taught me a lot about business and ethics.   He was my favorite manager ever.  Recently our paths crossed again and I  had the privilege of working with Mike for the last year and a half.  I am going to miss having lunch with you and sitting in your office telling stories. I was lucky to know him.  Rest in Peace my friend.  I will miss you.  Ross Szalay
