

Norma L. Riehl, age 85, died peacefully on December 27, 2017 at the William Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe. She was born on August 2, 1932 in Detroit, the daughter of Benjamin and Clara Platzke. She graduated Denby High School and began working at the Secretary of State. As a young lady she decided to crash a wedding for free food and a few cocktails. At this reception she met a young man who was also crashing the same wedding. Norma Platzke eventually married that man, James Riehl, at Assumption Grotto Church in Detroit on October 17, 1953. Norma was a home maker raising four children. As the wife of an automobile dealer, she was busy traveling and shared auto events with her husband Jim. She enjoyed boating, golf, bowling, casinos and travel. She was a member of the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club, North Channel Yacht Club, and Jefferson Yacht Club. Norma is survived by her four children: James E, Jr. (Janet), Michael (Krista), Christine Powers (Thomas) and Barbara Sheridan; her eight grandchildren: Jim III (Brittany), Joe, Jeffrey (Jen), Michelle, Michael, Tom Jr., Carly and Jackie; and two great-grandchildren: JR and Lawdon. She was predeceased by her husband Jim in 1999. Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 9:00 pm Friday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Her body will lie instate at St. Thecla Catholic Church, 20740 S. Nunneley, Clinton Township from 9:30 am Saturday until mass begins at 10:00 am. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Township. The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to The Capuchin Monastery, c/o The Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, Attn: Development Office, 1820 Mt.
