

Olive J. Roberts, age 82, died peacefully at Wynwood of Troy on Sunday, May 22, 2013. She was born in East Detroit, Michigan on March 2, 1931, the daughter of Alvan and Florence (nee Weatherbee) Fleury. She graduated from East Detroit High School in 1949 and worked as a waitress during her high school years to help support her family. After high school, she worked as a file clerk for McCord, an automotive radiator manufacturer. On April 29, 1950, the 19 year old Olive Fleury married Richard Roberts at St. Veronica Catholic Church in East Detroit. The young couple had their first child before Richard enlisted in the US Navy and was stationed in Korea. At the time, Olive worked for the R.L. Polk Company as a bookkeeper. When Richard returned from the war, three more children came along and Olive was a busy homemaker. As an empty nester, Olive when back to work and was employed as a cook at the Georgian East Nursing Home in St. Clair Shores. Olive enjoyed cooking and singing. She was a member of the St. Mark and St. Peter Catholic Church choirs for many years. Mrs. Roberts is survived by her four children, Karen Brys (Tim), Vivian Ehlert (Max), Linda Curry (David) and Jeffrey Roberts; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; her brother Robert Fleury (Lorraine) and step-brothers Lou Fleury (Marilyn) and John Fleury. She was predeceased by her husband Richard in May of 2013. The funeral for Olive will be held at 12 noon Saturday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Aveue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 pm Friday with a 7:00 o'clock Rosary. Inurnment will be at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Historic Catholic Church of Detroit, in care of the family, would be appreciated.
