GREATEST MATH TEACHER WHO EVER LIVED!

I had the honor and privilege of knowing Paul both personally and professionally when we taught together at St. Matthew’s School in Detroit (1973-1976).  My memory of Paul in those days is of a young man full of energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge,  wearing a big smile — and carrying a clipboard!

The pictures and messages that have been shared here since Paul’s passing are a beautiful reflection of a life well lived and a man much loved. 

I am ever-grateful for the gift of Paul in my life. In a short amount of time he left me with many meaningful and lasting memories and I will long treasure those memories of Paul, a gifted and dedicated teacher, an honest and compassionate man, and a dear and special friend. 

My prayers of sympathy are with Paul’s family at this time and in the days ahead. 


 

On behalf of the Capuchin brothers I offer my deepest sympathies on the passing of Paul. It is truly humbling to receive memorial donations in honor of his life. Please be assured of the brother's prayers for the entire Schulte family during this great time of grief. May perpetual light shine upon Paul.

Paul was a good and kind teacher and friend.  I am grateful for the many ways he formed my early life at St Matthews.   I will treasure our times with Mr Sherry and the many ways they both supported me.

He was a brilliant math teacher. RIP Mr. Schulte. 

We walked through so much of life together Paul,  our school days, played on the same Little League team, taught in the parochial schools, were members of CCD (Conrad Cellar Dwellers) where we socialized weekly if not daily.
Eventually I moved to the VI,  but it was you Paul who  corresponded with cards every Christmas! Thank you for being my friend!  Rest in peace.

Mr. Schulte, you were the best! You were my teacher for math, French, and history in 7th and 8th grade. You made us work for our grades and you ran a tight ship. You taught us to think by asking relevant questions. You were always kind and fair. You were a great example to all of us and I trust that you are now enjoying your glory. I look forward to seeing you again at our heavenly banquet where there is no more pain, no more tears, and no more math tests! Be with God, Mr. Schulte. You were a good and faithful servant.

So sorry to hear Mr. Schulte has passed.  I was privileged to have had him for 7th and 8th grade math @ St. Matthew in the 86/87.  

Thinking back to my time in his classes, I remember how intimidating he was.  He set a high bar and as somebody who personally found math  challenging, it wasn't the easiest class.  What I also remember, was how open and available he was to students who needed help.  

I remember quite clearly the lines of students who appeared every day to stand next to Mr. Schulte at his lectern and get the help you needed.  Nobody was ever turned away.

In hindsight, I took more from the class than I knew at the time.  Adult life provides no  shortcuts. You have to learn to do something, it may take time but you can learn it.  

Now, with kids of my own at the age I was in Mr. Schulte's class, the strongest lesson in hindsight was that it was OK to ask for help.  That's something I've tried to pass on to my own children.  In his own quiet way, Paul Schulte had a big impact on my life.

Back in the late 60's, Mr. Schulte was my math teacher at St. Matthew's.  He was THE best teacher I ever had.  He was a devoted, intelligent, genuine and very kind individual.  I have thought about him often.  I am sorry to hear of his passing.  

Mr. Schulte was my Junior High teacher from 1976-1977. He was a tough teacher, and at the time I was terrified of him.  However, he taught me a lot about life, importance of being prepared and a lot about hard work. I had the utmost respect for him as an adult and appreciated him being tough on us. Rest in peace.
