

Philip Holwey passed away on October 24, 2014 with his family by his side at the age of 85. He was born in Detroit, Michigan onNovember 18, 1928; son of Leon and Nazley (nee Haddad) Holwey. On November 8, 1953 Philip married Yvonne Deratany at St. George Orthodox Church on E. Grand Blvd., in Detroit. They enjoyed 61 wonderful years together. Mr. Holwey retired in 1990 from Kraft Foods where he was employed as a supervisor. Philip had a wonderful Bass voice. He was the choir director at St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shores for 25 years. He wrote a book entitled "So You Want To Sing" and an unpublished book entitled the "Phonetic Dictionary". He was a fun loving man. He enjoyed golfing and loved to take home movies. He would always sacrifice himself to take care of his family as they were the most important part of his life. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Yvonne. He loved his children Christopher (Christina), Kathie (Sam), and Lisa (Larry). He was proud of his grandchildren JP, Nick, Juliana, Michael, Cohen, and Nigel. He leaves behind numerous loving nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A Trisagion will be at 7:00 pm. Mr. Holwey will lie instate at St. George Orthodox Church, 2160 E. Maple Rd., Troy, on Monday from 10:00 until the time of the funeral at 11:00 am. Very Reverend Joseph Antypas will officiate. A funeral procession will take Mr. Holwey to his final restin place at Cadillac Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church.
