Rafaele Domenico Paonessa D.D.S.

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dr. Ralph Paonessa, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and respected dentist, who dedicated over 65 years to his profession with compassion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his patients.

A man of simplicity and deep faith, Ralph found joy in the love of his family, his Italian heritage, and the music of the violin. He was the proud son of parents from Southern Italy, embracing the traditions and values they instilled in him. His love for the land was evident in his passion for gardening and tending to his farmland, where he found peace and fulfillment.

He attended St. David Catholic Grade School in Detroit, St. Joseph High School in Detroit, Wayne State University and University of Detroit Dental School. In addition, Ralph was an usher at St. Joan of Arc Parish, a De La Salle High School Alumni, a member of the Detroit Dental Society as well as the Knights of Columbus.

Ralph’s greatest love was his family. He shared a beautiful life with his devoted wife Mary, was a proud father to three children and cherished his role as a grandfather to eleven adoring grandchildren. His legacy is one of love, humility, and dedication to his church.

While he may no longer be with us, the warmth of his kindness, the beauty of his music, and the love he so freely gave will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife Mary (Granzotto) of 58 years, his children Maria (John), Paul (Eva), Jim (Blanca), his grandchildren Alaina, Jack, James, Amelia, Gabriella, Cristiano, Alessia, Matteo, Valentina, Santiago, and the late Luca Rafaele Paonessa.

An instate for Rafaele will be held Monday, March 17, 2025 at 9:00 AM at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack Ave, St Clair Shores, MI 48080, followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 AM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Rafaele's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis , Tennessee 38105 US.
