

Richard "Doug" Zanotti passed away peacefully with his family by his side at home on June 19th, 2012. He was born on August 25, 1927 in Detroit;son of Eusibio and Lucy (nee Naretti) Zanotto. As a twelve year old boy Richard met his future wife Phyllis when she moved into the neighborhood at the age of ten. They were married on November 27, 1948 at St. Mary Church (now Old St. Mary) in downtown Detroit. Their first home was on Saratoga on the east side. Eventually they bought a house on Avalon in St Clair Shores in 1956 as the original owners. They joined St. Joan of Arc Church in 1956. Richard and a few fellow parishioners started the first Cub Scout Pack and the first Little League at St. Joan of Arc School. Richard and Phyllis enrolled their children at the school. Early on Richard worked two jobs to help support his family. He eventually retired in the mid 1990s as a custodial engineer at Poupard Elementary School. Richard was described as a fun loving man who loved a good joke. He subscribed to the three "F's": Faith, Family, and Friends. He was a very athletic man who enjoyed golfing and bowling. He was a lifelong Detroit Lions fan. Mr. Zanotti played high school football at St. Philip Neri High School in Detroit. His biggest love in life was his family. He leaves behind his wife of 63 years, Phyllis. He was proud of his children Stephen (Roxanne), Richard (Marlene), David (Sharon), Patricia Zanotti, and Felicia Steil (Michael). He adored his grandchildren Alecia, Philip, and Matthew Zanotti; Robert and Julia Douglas; and Erin Steil. He is survived by his brother George and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers James and Joseph. Visitation Saturday from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Sunday from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A Rosary will be recited Sunday evening at 7:00 pm. Mr. Zanotti will lie instate on Monday from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church 21620 Greater Mack, St Clair Shores. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 20450 Civic Center Dr., Southfield, MI 48076-4135. cancer.org
