

Buhl, Robert C. City of Grosse Pointe Park resident died on March 17, 2016. He was born in Detroit on November 27, 1931 the son of the late Carl F. and Louise (Horning) Buhl. Dear husband of the late Jane F. Buhl. Loving father of Deborah (John) Peck and Carrie (Derek) Ray. Loving grandfather of Emma, Chloe, and Hannah Peck; and Robert, Cash, and Luke Ray. He was devoted to his family and his community. He served in the US Army as an instructor at the USUAR Signal School in Ansbach, Germany. He attended Goodale Elementary, Denby High School and the University of Michigan. After graduation he joined the Bower Roller Bearing Division of the Federal Mogul Corporation in Detroit as an engineer trainee. In 1968 he joined management at the Form-Sprag Company in Warren, Michigan (later acquired by Dana Corporation). He retired in 1991 as Vice President of Operations for the Industrial Division of Dana Corporation. After retirement he was able to pursue his interest in real estate, He was s State of Michigan Licensed Building Contractor. As Buhl Properties he was able to establish both residential and commercial rentals in several communities including the Holiday Gardens Complex in Mt. Clemens. He opened the first BaskinRobbins store in the State of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He, along with his long time friend Peter Vestevich were pioneers in the sport of racquetball with centers in Warren, Sterling Heights, and Ann Arbor. He had strong feelings of giving back to his community. For the City of Grosse Pointe Park, he served as Chairman of the Planning Committee and Chairman of the Tax Review Board. For Lutheran Social Services of Michigan he was on the Finance Committee and board of Gateshead Crossing. He was a long time Trustee of the Munderloh Foundation and volunteered at several elementary schools in Detroit where he founded the "Warm Coats for Kids" program serving four elementary schools. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the Lochmoor Club of Grosse Pointe Woods, Lakeland Golf & Country of Brighton and the Model "A " Restorers Club (M.A.R.C.) He was an avid fan of Michigan Football, with records for attending every Michigan home game since 1945 excepting the 1954 season where he was overseas in the U.S. Army. He also has one of the largest Michigan Football game program collections in the country. He enjoyed sports events, art, sailing, softball, tennis and teaching Sudoku at Senior Centers. Visitation for Mr. Buhl will take place Thursday 4-8 pm and Friday 2-8 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Ponte Woods. Mr. Buhl will lie in state Saturday 9:30 until the time of funeral service 10 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 375 Lothrop, Grosse Pointe Farm. The interment will take place at Bethlehem Cemetery in Ann Arbor. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lutheran Social Services of Michigan.
