

Robert Raymond Graham November 21, 1923 February 4, 2013 Robert Raymond Graham, 89, of Grosse Pointe Woods passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on February 4, 2013. Bob was the devoted husband of Clara Graham, the love of his life for sixty-two years of marriage. Together they had two children, Diane Platt (Richard) of Grosse Pointe Farms, and Cheryl Higginbotham (Alan) of New Hampshire; four grandchildren, R. Booth Platt, Jr. (McKenzie) of Huntington Woods, Anne Platt Barrows (Ryan) of Pennsylvania, Matthew and Christina Higginbotham of New Hampshire; and four great-grandchildren, William and Olin Platt, Martha and Jane Barrows. Bob served in the U.S. Army during WWII, fought in the Naples-Foggia (Anzio, Italy) and Rome-Arno campaigns, and was a POW for fourteen months. He was awarded several decorations: Sharp Shooter Medal, two Bronze Service Stars 12/23/1943, Purple Heart 1/1944, WWII Victory Medal 11/8/1944, EAME Theatre Ribbon 11/8/1944, Good Conduct Medal 8/22/1945, and the Prisoner of War Medal. He received an honorable discharge 11/6/1945. He met Clara in 1947, married in 1950, and had a distinguished career in finance at General Motors for forty years, retiring at age 62. Bob loved playing baseball, golfing, and bowling. His lifelong hobby was investing. He did community service at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church where his family attended for generations, he and his wife were board members of The Villagers, a Grosse Pointe ballroom dance group, and he was a member of the Grosse Pointe Senior Men's Club. He loved to travel with his wife Clara, and spent recent summers in Charlevoix. His great joys in life were his family and friends. He led his life with integrity, was a gentleman to the very end, always had a positive attitude, and without exception put others' needs before his own. His strength, devotion, and faith were inspiring. A memorial service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 16 at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church, 375 Lothrop, Grosse Pointe Farms.
