

Robert B. Hamlin Dedicated Newspaper Man Dies Robert B. Hamlin, of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan, passed away Tuesday August 1, 2012, at home in Grosse Pointe where he lived with his wife Joanne for 42 years. Bob and Joanne were married for over 56 years. Bob was well known throughout Detroit as a newspaper man. He started his career in the newspaper business at a very young age. Born in Kentucky, he moved to Detroit with his parents as a young boy and as soon as he was old enough started working his first newspaper route. Little did he know that this would turn into his lifelong career. He was hired by the Detroit News as a district manager and then was ultimately promoted to Circulation Manager. He proudly worked for the News for 25 years. During the mid 80's with the start of USA Today, Bob was hired by Gannett newspapers and became their first General Manager responsible for the distribution of the USA Today newspapers throughout Michigan and Ohio. He retired from Gannett in 1997 after 15 years in management. Bob Hamlin served his country in the US ARMY during the Korean War from 1953-1955. During this time he was selected to play for the Army baseball team playing to large crowds in Seoul Stadium. Bob will be greatly missed by his large family and the many friends who knew him. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 3rd from 2:00 until 9:00 pm with a scripture service at 7:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Mr. Hamlin will lie instate on Saturday August 4th from 9:30 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 467 Fairford Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Father William Hermann will officiate. Mr. Hamlin will be buried privately at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy.
