Houghton, Ronald J., May 26, 2011 Age 72. Beloved husband of Sharon. Dear father of Scott (Marina), Sean (Stacey) and Ted. Loving grandfather of Sarah, Joey, Brian and Caitlyn. Brother of George Houghton and the late Elizabeth King. Ron was born to the late George and Mildred Houghton, April 1, 1939 in Detroit MI. Ron graduated from Eastern High School in 1957 where he was an avid athlete and played baseball, basketball, football and handball. He was voted Best Dressed and Class Comedian. In 1965, he married his loving wife Sharon and was married for 46 years. Together they had three children Scott (Marina), Sean (Stacey), and Ted. Ron was a grandfather to Sarah, Joey, Brian, and Caitlyn and he is also survived by his brother George Houghton. Ron worked for National Broach and Machine Company in Detroit Michigan and later became President of the local union. In 1989, Ron was hired by the United Steelworkers Union as a Contract Negotiator and was later promoted to Assistant District Director responsible for several states. In 1999, Ron retired from the Steelworkers Union and was recommended by the President of the United Auto Workers Union to work at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and serve as Labor Liaison. As a very dedicated employee, Ron received Blue Cross Blue Shield Outstanding Service Awards in 2002 and again in 2007. Ron fully retired in 2009. Ron was a very loving man and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His hobbies included golfing, singing and traveling, but most of all, laughing and entertaining his friends and family. Visitation Wednesday 2-9 pm at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road, Grosse Pointe Woods. Private family services will be held. Memoral contributions may be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
