Rose Theresa Schmidt

Rose Schmidt, age 98, passed away at her Eastpointe home on March 13, 2014 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 23, 1915 in Detroit; daughter of Aloysius and Maria (nee Hamtel) Ebner. Rose married Jacob Schmidt on January 5, 1937 at Nativity Church in Detroit. They enjoyed 54 wonderful years together until Jacob's death in 1991. Rose was an extremely hard working woman. She worked for many years at Sanders in many different capacities. She was a great cook and could bake anything. Her family enjoyed her world class pies. Her biggest joy in life was spending time with her family and playing with her grandchildren. Rose lived a long wonderful life to its fullest. She was proud of her children Carol Calcaterra (the late Donald), Ken (Francesca), Sue Hefka (Paul), and the late Richard (Nancy). She is survived by her 12 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. Visitation will be held for Mrs. Schmidt on Sunday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will be held at 7:00 pm. Mrs. Schmidt will lie instate on Monday at 10:00 am until the time of the Mass of the Resurrection at 10:30 am at St. Basil the Great Catholic Church, 22860 Schroeder, Eastpointe. Father Anthony Sulkowski will officiate. Rose will be interred next to her beloved Jacob at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
