Ruth Elizabeth Olexa

Ruth Elizabeth Olexa age 85 of St. Clair Shores died peacefully Monday January 16th, 2012 at Sunrise Assisted Living on Vernier, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. Born in Detroit, MI the daughter of Lawrence and Clotilda (nee Grewe) Stockman. Ruth was raised in Detroit and graduated from St. David's High School and later attended the University of Detroit. In 1951 she married Francis John Olexa "Jack" they shared 59 years of marriage until his death August 17th, 2010. Ruth was devoted to her family, and was very active in supporting her children's Catholic grade school and high school activities. She was also very active at her local parish St. Peter The Apostle Catholic Church in Harper Woods, MI. Ruth was an excellent cook and her hobbies included painting, gardening, playing golf and traveling. Ruth is survived by her children Mark, Michael, Timothy (Janette), Ann (Gary) Shalla, Paul (Tammy) and James, grandchildren Jennifer and Jason Shalla, also Paul II, Allison, Grace, Elisabeth, Clara, Nicholas and Brenna Olexa. Sister of the late James and Lawrence Stockman. Visitation at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home 20705 Mack Ave. (at Vernier), Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. Thursday 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Service Friday at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church 19851 Anita Harper Woods, MI.
