Ruth Floraine Zappitell, age 96 of Clinton Township, passed away January 31, 2017. She was born in Fayetteville, Tennessee on July 4, 1920; the daughter of Sam and Mary (nee Lindsay) Yates. Ruth was proud of her longtime employment as a Waitress at the luxury Whittier Hotel in Detroit. Her service there was fitting for her passion for entertaining as the hotel hosted several celebrities; such as George Romney, Mae West and Frank Sinatra. She loved to socialize, perform comedy routines and dance. Even in her later years, Ruth was a member of an elaborate Senior Dance Troop for over 20 years. Born in Tennessee, Ruth was gracious and overflowed with southern charm. She was always pleasant and a pleasure to be around. She got along well with everybody. An inspiration, she was always filled with the joy of living life. She loved to have fun and could be considered a role model for ageing gracefully. Ruth is dearly loved and will be deeply missed. Beloved wife of the late Timothy for 60 years. Loving mother of John (Kathleen) Zappitell and Esther (Raymond) Cannara. Treasured grandmother of David (Brenda) Zappitell, Molly Zappitell and Amy Zappitell. Proud great-grandmother of Zoe, Kyle, Juliana and Ashley Zappitell and Holly and Nikkie Hodgson. Dear sister of the late Sam and Lindsay Yates. Ruth's family will receive friends on Saturday, February 4th from 9:30AM until time of service 11:30AM at A.H.
