
Lord’s Day, Sunday, October 4, 2020. She is now joining the love of her life, the
late David Battishill ( who passed on July 2004). She was born in Detroit on March 15, 1929 to Paul and Hattie Poelke.
Shirley has been playing the piano and organ in churches since 1946. Among these
congregations were Burns Bapist, Gratiot Baptist, Redeemeer Baptist, North Pointe
Baptist and Bethany Baptist.
Beyond Shirley’s fervent love of the Lord was her family, golf,scrabble, gardening, hospitality,
and being a skilled seamstress. She will be remembered for her sweet and quick
wit as well as her long outdoor, fast paced walks Shirley will be missed
by those who knew her.
She leaves behind a family who will miss her and her sweet spirit. She will be
remembered for being a kind, sweet, humble and gracious woman to whomever
she met.
She is survived by her 4 loving children, Carl Battishill (Mary), Sharon Veitch
(Phillip), Kathleen Campbell ( Ronald), and Arlene Battishill (Ilana) . Her 12
grandchildren; Robert , Alison, David Veitch, Brittany Davis (Brian), Renee
Waniolek, Sheri Angeles (Adrian); Nick Battishill , Madison Battishill. Stephanie,
Glen Bates, Gary Campbell, Zev and Yoav Landsberg Lewis; her 6 great grandchildren, PJ, Phoenix, Scotland, Dakota , Conner and Cayden.
A visitation will be held Wednesday October 7th, 2020 from 9:00am until 11:00am at
Cornerstone Baptist Church with a funeral service immediately following. Burial will be Cadillac Memorial Gardens East.
Contributions in Shirley’s honor can be made to the Plymouth Community Band.
