

Shirley James Bonahoom passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November 24, 2014. She was born on August 3rd, 1925 in Detroit; daughter of Frank D. and Beatrice Yolanda (nee Hoover) James. Shirley was forced to quit school at the age of 16 to help provide for her family. When she was 65 she returned to high school to complete her qualifications to earn her diploma. She was a talented writer, impressing her English teacher enough that she recommended that her work be published. She had a passion for laughter and beauty which was evident through her gift of oil painting, which was self-taught at an early age. The painting that came from her heart the most was that of her beloved Jesus Christ. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister devoted to her family. She leaves behind her loving sons Robert and James, and daughter Cheryl. She was proud of her grandchildren Robert John, Gregory Paul, Peter James, Lukas Asha, Nioma Narissa, Aura Muunta, and Madison Emily. She leaves fond memories to her great-grandchildren Caleb, Tyler, Grace, Samuel, Lillian, Quincy, Kai, Moon Blossom, Yanni, Zion, and Yarrow. She was predeceased by her husband Emile in 1987. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2:00 pm until 9:00 pm at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am at the funeral home with family officiating. Interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Detroit.
