

Shirley Mae Palmer passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 8th. She was born on December 28, 1924 in Monroe, Michigan; daughter of Robert and Thelma (nee Wahl) Heiss. Shirley married John Palmer on May 20, 1950 at Faith Lutheran Church on Jefferson Avenue on Detroit's east side. They enjoyed 61 years together. When their first son was born, Shirley quit her administrative assistant job to raise her family. She was very family orientated and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid bowler playing in numerous leagues throughout the years. Shirley enjoyed knitting and playing pinochle with her friends and family. She had her favorite television shows and enjoyed going to the movies. Mrs. Palmer was fun loving in nature and will be missed by all that knew her. She leaves behind her loving husband John. She loved her sons Robert (Gemma) Palmer and Mark (Denise) Palmer. She was proud of her grandchildren Ellen, Emily, and Zachary. She is survived by her sister Marilyn Milroy and brother Robert Heiss; and nephews John Milroy, Steven and David Heiss. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00-8:00 pm at the A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Ave., at Vernier Rd., Grosse Pointe Woods. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Reverend Albert Prouty will officiate. Interment at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Twp.
