

Stephen’s passion and endless dedication to dance, artistry, performance, and technique was carried throughout his life, through his professional dance career, as well as sharing his knowledge and skills with others. Stephen had a memorable and fulfilling career for 16 years with Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre. Some of his favorite roles included, “Elegy Boy†in Balanchine’s Serenade, “Dracula†in Ben Stevenson’s Dracula, “Stomper†in Twyla Tharp’s In The Upper Room, “Dr. Coppelius in Terrence S. Orr’s Coppelia, “Johnny O†in Paul Taylor’s Company B, and “Mitch†in John Neumeirer’s A Street Car Named Desire. Stephen also had enjoyed performing throughout the United States, as well as in Germany, Austria, Israel, and Japan. He was well respected for his craft among his peers, friends, and his dance family. He was a professor of dance at Madonna University, and Marygrove College, as well as co-owner and director at Great Lakes Dance Centre.
He is survived by his forever best friend and wife, Maghen Hadala; his two precious children, Ian Luke and Elise Gabrielle; his parents, Collin and Joann Hadala; his father and mother in law; Margaret and Wayne Sturgill (deceased); two brothers, Joseph (Kara) Hadala and John (Merideth) Hadala; his sister, Kathryn (Rick) Short; his brother in law, Paul (Jillian) Sturgill; and his 5 nieces and nephews, Owen, Payton, Leah, Wyatt, and Sophia. Stephen is also survived by numerous extended family and loving friends, as well as many of his devoted students.
Stephen will forever be remembered for his big personality, sense of humor, kind heart, and love for life.
Funeral service will be held at 12 Noon on Saturday, January 4th, 2020 in A.H. Peters Funeral Home (20705 Mack Ave, Grosse Pointe Woods, MI). There will be Visitation on Thursday, January 2nd from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM , and on Friday, January 3rd from 4:00PM until 9:00 PM. Private burial will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery.
