Stephen Stashuk

Stephen Stashuk, age 91, died peacefully on January 6, 2014 at his residence. Steve was born on October 28, 1922 in Hamtramck, Michigan; the son of John and Anna Stashuk. He graduated Hamtramck High School in 1940. Steve proudly served his country during World War II in the US Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. He saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Service Medal and the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with Five Bronze Stars. On October 18, 2008, Steve traveled with Honor Flight Michigan to Washington, D.C. to tour the World War II Memorial and visit Arlington National Cemetery. Steve was employed as a machinist and retired from the DeVlieg Machine Co. in Royal Oak in 1981. He was a life member of the Grosse Pointe Senior Men's Club; the Knights of Columbus, Gabriel Richard Council 2463; the VFW Bruce Post #1146; the Croation Fraternal Union Lodge # 351; and St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in St. Clair Shores. He was an avid stamp collector, enjoyed bowling and dancing and taking his grandson to his youth hockey games. His shopping at Costco and Sam's Club was his legendary social activity. He was fond of his two dogs, Hobbes and Dooley. Steve is survived by his daughter, Carol O'Shea (Dennis Herman); his grandson, Michael O'Shea and granddaughters Kimberly and Kristina Stashuk. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 49 years, Agnes and their son Mark Stashuk. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the A. H. Peters Funeral Home, 20705 Mack Avenue at Vernier Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. A scripture service will begin at 7:00 o'clock Wednesday evening. His body will lie instate at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 21620 Greater Mack at Overlake in St. Clair Shores from 9:30 a.m Thursday until mass begins at 10:00 a.m. Rev. Roman Pasciezcny will officiate. Entombment will follow at Cadillac Memorial Gardens East in Clinton Township.
