Thinking back on grandpa‘s life, I am filled with a peace and happiness that he got to live a long  and full life, surrounded by his family and doing the things he  loved to do.  Him and my grandmother were avid travelers, and in their lifetime, got to see many of the most beautiful places in our country, and I know that he loved to travel, camp and fish, even until his last year’s. I also know that he and my grandmother loved to spend time with her family, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, which is a true blessing in life. When I think back on my memories of grandpa, I think of two things. First  was that he always had a genuine interest in how things were going in your life, he wanted to know what you’re up to ,How the family was, how work was and always was willing to listen. Second, was that he loved to tell stories, this is becoming something we do less and less in our day-to-day lives, but he loved to just sit around and talk and tell stories from his past and wanted to hear your stories as well.  He was loved, and will be missed by his family and those close to him.

Part 2 of  Kim’s eulogy. 
He also poured himself into the Boy Scouts, serving as Assistant Scout Master with his son Rick. Those years brought adventures, campouts, and lessons his Scouts — and his family — never forgot.
 He had a deep love for animals and would often tell his children about the pets he had growing up. One of his favorites was about the day a game warden stopped him while he was carrying several rabbits. The warden asked to see his hunting permit, but Chuck told him, “Oh, I’m not hunting… I’m just carrying.” And just as he said it… his German shepherd, Pugsy, came bounding up… with another rabbit in its mouth.  Let’s just say… that one was a little hard to explain.

Chuck loved the outdoors — camping, fishing, or just soaking in God’s creation. One of the proudest moments of his later years came this past May, when he went on the Honor Flight for veterans. The joy and pride he felt that day never left him.
Even in illness, Chuck showed us how to live with grace. He wasn’t afraid. He took life as it came. And through it all, he kept showing up for the people he loved.
If you’re here today, it’s because Chuck touched your life in some way. And I think the best way we can honor him is to carry forward his example: Love deeply. Serve faithfully. Enjoy the simple things. And always… always… keep a good story ready to tell!

Chucks’s daughter-in-law Kim Hite has written a eulogy that I would like to share.  I will need to post it in several parts. 
Part 1 
Charles “Chuck” Hite was a husband, a father, a grandfather, a friend… and a very proud Army veteran. He lived 87 full years — years filled with love, loyalty, and plenty of laughter.
For 66 of those years, Chuck shared his life with the love of his life, Pat. They did everything together — fishing on Madison Lake, boating at Buck Creek, playing cards, volunteering every week at church, or just sitting together, enjoying each other’s company. And if you ever saw the two of them at home, you might have caught one of the sweetest sights — Chuck being Pat’s “eyes” while she played solitaire for hours. That quiet act of love… really says everything about the kind of husband he was.

Chuck was a family man through and through. He raised his kids to know they were loved — and to love learning.  When they were young, he took them to Gettysburg, Williamsburg… places where history came alive. And boy, did Chuck make it come alive. He was a true history buff — and he loved to talk.
In fact… Chuck didn’t just talk at museums — he engaged. He had a gift for turning a quick tour into an in-depth discussion. And let’s just say… pity the poor museum guide who got Chuck in their group and didn’t know their subject inside and out — because Chuck would find out!
