Denise graduated from Olentangy High School in 1971 and later attended and proudly graduated from The Ohio State University with a master’s degree in accounting, cuma sum laude. Her academic achievements were further recognized as a member of the Mortar Board.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, she had the privilege to build Continental Blinds from the ground up alongside her husband of 39 years, David Morrison. Their business has proudly served their community for over three decades and has grown to include her children and grandchildren. Her entrepreneurial journey was a significant part of her life, leading her to create a number of other businesses over the years.
Watching Denise and David’s love story unfold was an honor and a privilege. Their relationship was a glowing example of unconditional love, deep commitment, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their love was playful, passionate, and warm. Knowing them together was knowing that love is intentional, understanding, and most of all, fun.
Her greatest achievement was the invaluable lessons she imparted to her children Dawn Gallione (Gerard Kummer, Jr), Joseph Gallione and Matthew Morrison. She was a carefree, imaginative, and fiercely protective mother, as tough as nails when necessary, yet always supportive, encouraging, loving, and judgment-free. She found a way to show up for us in the exact way each of us needed and was always in our corner.
Denise had an all-consuming love for life. She found the magic and joy in everything from the flower garden in her backyard to traveling the world and exploring new cultures. There is a quote from Sylvia Plath’s novel The Bell Jar about a fig tree. In it she writes, “I saw my life branching out before me like the green fig tree in the story…I saw myself starving to death just because I couldn't make up my mind which of the figs I would choose. I wanted each and every one of them, but choosing one meant losing all the rest.” Many of us relate to this quote, but Dee went right up to the tree and picked the figs off in handfuls. She was a woman of action, living many lives fully and without hesitation. Her many walks of life brought her wisdom and shaped her interests, which included writing, watching great movies, dancing, bubble baths, good music, and even better food.
She had an unbreakable relationship with God and chose sobriety each and every day. Denise remained clean and sober for over four decades, giving her the opportunity to make a positive impact on countless lives by sharing her experience, strength and hope with anyone who had a desire to create a better life. Her experience with addiction and hardship made her an incredible confidant. Denise always made people feel less alone.
Denise leaves behind her sisters Janis (John) Perlman, Stephanie Hadobas (John Coon), Margo (Swaro) Smith, Laurie (Mark) Lacher, grandchildren Faith Yoder, Jeffrey Kummer, Nicholas Kummer, Lillyann Gallione, James John Gallione, Haiden Morrison and countless nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her brothers Donnie Swaro and John Swaro.
Her death has left a void that cannot be filled, leaving us to attempt to navigate this life without her. May we all choose to live our lives as boldly and fearlessly as she did.
