It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Glen Widner, a man whose life was defined by his unwavering devotion to his family and his profound impact on the softball community. A beloved husband, son, father, grandfather, coach, and friend, Glen’s legacy is one of kindness, dedication, mentorship, and a deep, abiding love for those around him.
A Legacy of Love and Family
Glen was the heartbeat of his family. He is preceded in death by many loved ones, including Mary and Billy Blankenship. He is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Penni, with whom he built a life full of joy and shared purpose. He was a devoted son to his mother, Judy Thomas, and a guiding light to his daughters, Heather (Mark) Colvin, Haley (Matt) Stevers, and Mindy (Bo) Skinner.
To his grandchildren— Rory & Graham Colvin, Brayden, Kynlie & Eloise Stevers, and Leeanna & Carolyn Skinner - he was the ultimate "Grandpa," always involved and ever-present. He also leaves behind an extended family including sister-in-law Pam Cox and brother-in-law Mike Blevins. As well as countless friends who became family over the years, including Ron Flowers, Dave McGrew, and Mike Shimmel. Glen’s warmth and caring nature were the foundation upon which so many lives were built.
He devoted over 30 years of his career to Eagle Warehouse & Logistics, and was also employed by Ross Builders for the past year and a half. He formed lasting friendships and left a meaningful impact with those he worked with.
What truly defined him was his immense heart and his dedication to those he loved. He was a man of spirited competition and simple pleasures, whether he was strategically playing his hand at card games, going for long bike rides, enjoying the laughter of a family game night, or feeling the rush of adrenaline at the horse races. His sense of adventure took him across the country, yet his favorite journeys were the ones he took into the interests of his family and friends. With a rare and selfless curiosity, he strove to become an expert in whatever his loved ones were passionate about, just so he could share in their joy and provide guidance whenever possible. He didn’t just witness our lives; he immersed himself in them, proving that his greatest hobby of all was simply being there for us.
A Champion on and off the Field
Beyond his home, Glen was a pillar of the softball world. His passion for the game was matched only by his dedication to the players he mentored. Throughout the years, Glen coached hundreds of athletes through: The Ohio Lasers Organization, Jonathan Alder High School, local youth sports teams and individual hitting lessons.
He didn't just teach the mechanics of the game; he taught character, resilience, and teamwork. To his players, he was more than a coach—he was a mentor who believed in their potential both on the dirt and in life. He left his mark on the softball community and his legacy will live on through the players whose lives he impacted.
Honoring Glen’s Memory
In honor of Glen’s lifelong commitment to the sport and the development of young athletes, the family is establishing a scholarship for graduating softball players in the community. In lieu of flowers, donations made out to Penni Widner, toward this scholarship fund are welcomed to ensure Glen’s passion for the game continues to support the next generation.
A Request for Memories: The family wishes to create a lasting "Memory Book" to treasure for years to come. They encourage anyone who was impacted by Glen’s life to bring:
