A graduate of Upper Arlington High School and Miami University, she was a devoted, stellar foreign language teacher. Most days, Gwyn’s classroom light was the first one on in the building. She often worked with students before and after school.
Gwyn taught in the South Western City School district for 33 years. At Grove City High School from 1989 to 2002, she was an advisor to several extra curricular clubs, including student council.
In the fall of 2002, she helped open the new Central Crossing High School as the Foreign Language Department Leader. Again, she was involved in many extra curricular clubs and activities. She began a Cultural Diversity Club and worked with the Renaissance Club, among several others.
“Señora” to her students, Gwyn was an innovative and creative Spanish teacher. She achieved Master Teacher status during her years at Central Crossing, and she was a life-long mentor to other education professionals. Additionally, Gwyn helped train future teachers as a student teacher supervisor and by opening her classroom to early experience OSU students.
Gwyn was an avid reader, puzzle doer, and game player. She also loved traveling, hiking, and fishing.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Robin Coon. She is survived by her brother, Jared Scarbrough, several nieces and nephews, a plethora of McGraw cousins, and friends, including her beloved book club.
A service will be held to celebrate Gwyn amongst her family and friends on Friday, June 20, 2025 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm at Schoedinger Grove City Chapel, 4242 Hoover Rd, Grove City, OH 43123. Former students are also welcome.
