James "Jim" L. Schmitt

James “Jim” L. Schmitt, age 85, passed away on July 3, 2022 in Lake City, FL. He is preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Ethel (Barbee) Schmitt, his brother, Richard Schmitt and several siblings who passed away at a very young age, and his loving wife of 55 years, Joy Schmitt. Jim is survived by his children, Christopher (Tracy) Schmitt, James (Candace Leezer) Schmitt, Michael (Brandi) Schmitt, Julie (Evan Nephew) Lewis, grandchildren, Amy, Kiersten, Dylan, Tanner, Brittany, Katelyn, Christopher, Gabriel, Kenneth, Claire, and many more children Jim and Joy "adopted" through their life. Jim served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He retired from IBM after 42 years of service. In his spare time, Jim was an avid car guy and loved working on his Avanti vehicles and electronics, camping with his family and going on extended trips in the summer with the family, and most importantly taking care of the Little Theater Off Broadway, as the Treasurer, taking tickets, maintenance and whatever else needed to be done. He was a member of the VFW Post 532. A visitation time will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 1-3 pm at SCHOEDINGER GROVE CITY where his funeral service will begin at 3 pm with Rob Yanok, Celebrant.
