Born on February 23, 1955, in Pulaski, Tennessee, to the late John Robert "Bobby" Harwell and Carrie Frances "Fran" (White) Harwell. John attended Vanderbilt University, where he played football and began forging the strength and spirit that defined much of his life. He worked as a computer technician for UPS for 20 years. A man of faith and service, John was also an active member of the United Methodist Church, where he found community, purpose, and peace.
John had a vibrant personality and an undeniable presence. He was a proud Tennessean who carried his Southern roots wherever life took him. He had a deep love for music, movies, and football. He was an active adult who enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball and golf, embracing both the camaraderie and challenge of the game. John especially loved competing in chili cook-offs, where he brought not only spice, but excitement. Perhaps most of all, John was a storyteller. Gathered around with family or friends, he had a gift for turning everyday moments into unforgettable tales—always delivered with wit, warmth, and a twinkle in his eye.
John is survived by his children: Katherine R. Harwell, Sarah A. Harwell, John L. Harwell, Grace E. Harwell, and Carrie L. Harwell. As well as, granddaughters: Lainy and Reanne. He is also survived by his younger siblings: Bill and Katherine (Harwell) Roper and Gary Harwell.
John's family will be receiving friends on Wednesday, May 14th, 2025 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Schoedinger Norris Grove City, 4242 Hoover Road, Grove City, Ohio, 43123 to celebrate his life and share memories.
