Kay K. Byard

Martha “Kay” Byard, age 84, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. She was a retired teacher with Southwestern City Schools (Brookpark Middle School) and was a SWEA representative. Kay was a former president of the Southwest Public Libraries and instrumental in upgrades and new construction of the Grove City Library. A longtime Lincoln Village resident and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, she was the head of the kitchen and served as congregational president. Kay was selected as the Resident’s Association President at The Inn at Library Way. She was also an avid reader and enjoyed classical music and Broadway shows. Preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Bill Byard; parents, Edward and Helen (Hartmann) Kartman. Survived by sons, Mark (Amy) Byard and David (Julia) Byard; grandchildren, Elise, Jack, William, and Anna, and many dear friends. Visitation will be held 10-11 a.m. Saturday, September 13, 2025 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 55 Pasadena Ave., Columbus, OH. 43228. Funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment Alton Cemetery.
