Michael Philip Calafatis, 53, died Wednesday, February 1, 2023. He was born October 26, 1969 in Washington, D.C. He was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran. Firefighter Calafatis dedicated 21 years of service to Columbus Division of Fire and the residents of Columbus. He served the division in many capacities including firefighter, paramedic, bomb squad technician and as a tactical medic. He was an avid dirt bike rider, a talented industrial artist who painted some uniquely personalized fireman helmets, an excellent cook, carpenter, scuba diver, gunsmith, Jeep fanatic, and shooting competition enthusiast. Mike “Cally the Greek God” was proud of his Greek heritage. He had a great sense of humor and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by father, Constantine “Gus” Calafatis; uncles, Johnie Calafatis and Norval “Jack” Ord; grandmother, Mildred Cascarelli; mother in law, Judith Filbin; and beloved dog, Chase Calafatis. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, who he met at F. E. Warren Air Force base in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Kimberly Calafatis; children, Cody (Fiance Madison Taylor) Calafatis and Zoey (boyfriend, Marc Stephenson) Calafatis; adored Papou to his special grandchildren, Emma, Jeremiah, and Aleiah; mother, Ann (Mike) Perdue; siblings, Christian (Samantha) Calafatis and Mikayla Workman; niece, Grace McGarvey; special aunt, Juania Ord and cousin, Jimelle (Eddie) Mader; father in law, Jim Filbin; sister in law, Kristina Moore; brother in law, Randy Filbin; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held 2-4 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Schoedinger Grove City, 4242 Hoover Rd., (HOOVER RD AT KINGSTON AVE), Grove City where Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 p.m. Private inurnment for family will be at a later date at Sunset Cemetery.
