Robert I. "Tex" Weier, 85, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, in Columbus, Ohio. Born on June 1, 1939, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, Bob lived a life marked by dedication to his family, a passion for craftsmanship, and an enduring spirit of adventure.
Bob graduated from Columbus South High School and went on to build a remarkable career that reflected his ingenuity and work ethic. His coworkers and friends called him “Tex” because of his boots. He worked at General Motors (Fisher Body), Westinghouse, and North American Rockwell, where he contributed to the development of the Space Shuttle and the B1 bomber. A tool and die tradesman by profession, Bob had an extraordinary ability to see potential where others saw obstacles. His creative mind and skilled hands could fix almost anything, often devising innovative solutions that left those around him in awe.
Above all else, Bob cherished his family. He shared nearly 65 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, the girl next door, Lois J. Daniels Weier. Together they built a life filled with love, adventure, and unwavering support for one another. Bob was a devoted father to his sons Robin (Diane) Weier, Michael Weier, and Tracy Weier, Susie Mackanos and a loving grandfather to Megan (Jake) Jenkins and Krysten Blake, great grandfather to Gabriel Blake and beloved by a HOST of cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends.
Bob’s love for exploration was evident in his many hobbies. He found joy camping under the stars, traveling to new places, fishing quiet/not so quiet waters, boating across lakes and the Florida Keys, water skiing with family and friends, and simply exploring the world around him. His enthusiasm for tinkering and problem-solving was matched only by his gift for conversation—he never met a stranger he couldn't befriend. Whether fixing something broken or sharing stories over a Pepsi, Bob’s warmth and humor drew people in.
Animals were naturally drawn to Bob as well; he had an uncanny way with dogs who adored him as much as people did. Smokey adores him as well as his many grand dogs. His strength—both physical and emotional—was legendary among those who knew him best. Despite facing cancer later in life, Bob fought valiantly and emerged victorious—cancer-free, a testament to his resilience.
Bob also gave generously of his time to the community as a longtime Scoutmaster for Grove City Troop 385. Through scouting and beyond, he imparted valuable skills to his sons and countless others while nurturing their talents and supporting their passions.
He was preceded in death by his mother Agnes C. (Gene) Thomason; his father Robert I. (Evelyn) Weier; brother Terry Weier; and parents-in-law Grover and Prudence Daniels.
