Christopher William Harkies

It is with saddened hearts that we wish to share our family's loss. Christopher passed away peacefully at Hospice Wellington on Wednesday, April 28th at the age of 37 after a hard-fought battle with metastatic melanoma. He is the cherished son of Debbie and Bill (d. 2010) Harkies, dear brother of Andrew and Laura (fiancé Philip Papadopoulos) and loving uncle to Liam and Lucas. Chris is also survived by his grandmother Barbara Reid and predeceased by grandparents John Ross (Barney) Reid and Shirley and Bill Harkies.

As a child, Chris charmed us with his impish grin. He grew up fishing with his dad and continued to search for the best fishing spots as an adult. He also had a passion for old wood and metal working machinery. He was always excited to add to his growing collection of tools and enjoyed restoring, designing and creating unique projects. Although it may seem out of character, Chris carefully nurtured his tomato plants every summer, constantly trying to outwit marauding squirrels.

As per Chris’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
