Darrell Robert McKillop

He will be missed by his wife of 65 years, Rita, his children, Darrell Jr (Bonnie), Wendy (Kris), Maureen (Sharon), Richard (Amy) and grandchildren; Chloe and Justin, Nicole and Eric, Nicholas, Joshua and Donte, Brittany, Kira, Riley and Ryder and great grandchild, Millie. Darrell is predeceased by his parents Leo and Christine and his siblings Joan, Lee and Jamie.

Darrell was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia where he trained to become a millwright/machinist. In 1957, he married his high school sweetheart Rita, and in 1966 they moved with their young family to Guelph, Ontario. Darrell had a passion for service and operated both Steam-Ray and Ultra-Bright cleaning services for close to 50 years, building a loyal following of satisfied customers. Darrell’s passion for service was only matched by his passion for golf and snooker, sports that he excelled in. He was happiest when he could share his knowledge with loved ones, and never tired of teaching others the “tricks of the trade”. Notwithstanding all of dad’s accomplishments, his greatest was being a husband, father, and Grandfather.

Darrell loved meeting new people. He had a gift to make them feel comfortable and welcomed. He was an admirable businessman, a loyal husband, an involved father and grandfather, a terrific friend, with a witty sense of humour. We're all so lucky to have had a patriarch like him in the family. He taught us his love of life, love of gardening, sports, dancing, and mostly, his love of family will live on through all of us.

Our family would like to thank the staff from Closing the Gap, PSW’s and the incredibly staff at the Guelph General Hospital 6 west and 4 west. A special thanks to Selena, Madeline, Ben, and Dr. Harvey for their compassion they showed our family during this difficult time.

Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home- Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph (519-821-5077) on Friday, January 20, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00pm and on Saturday, January 21, 2023 from 10:00am to 11:00am. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at 11:00am in the funeral home chapel. A reception is to follow in the Fellowship Lounge.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Waterloo Wellington. Donations can be made online or in person at the funeral home.
