February 17, 1948 – March 8, 2021
Dorothy passed away suddenly but peacefully on Monday, March 8th at Guelph General Hospital in her 74th year. Predeceased by her parents, Otto and Amelia Hohnstein, her husband, Tom Williams, and her sister, Anne Coultes. Beloved mother of Jenny (Scott) Demark and Jessica (Murray) Short. Enormously proud Gramma Dots to Otto, William, Sam, and Molly, and many other honourary grandchildren. Loving sister of Ruth Poole, Jean (Francis) Merkley, Grace (Mitch) Keirstead, and Joyce Meissner.
Dorothy was born in Walkerton and spent most of her adult life in Bruce County. True to her upbringing, she was extremely hard working in all of her many endeavours. Nothing brought her more happiness than being a mother to her two daughters and also a surrogate mother to all of her daughters’ friends. She moved to Guelph in 2001 in order to be closer to family. Despite suffering a devastating stroke in 2012, Dorothy will be remembered for her tremendous energy, sharp wit, bravery in the face of adversity, independent spirit, and strength of character. With immaculate hair and make-up, and a diet coke in her hand, Dots loved to garden, watch curling, play with her grandchildren, and win at euchre. The grandkids remember her generosity, sense of fun, and excitement for their visits.
The family would like to thank the staff at Riverside Glen, where she was very fond of her caregivers. Thanks also to the staff at Guelph General Hospital and at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son for their kindness during this difficult time. A service for family and close friends will be held at a later date. For those who would like to honour Dorothy’s memory, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and/or to Diabetes Canada. Donation cards are available at Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home (519-822-4731), or online at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.
