It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Eraldo Marcello Campagnolo, in his 92nd year, who left us peacefully into the night with family by his side on June 22nd, 2025.
He travelled from Galliera Veneta, Italy to British Columbia to work on the CN Railroad, eventually he made his way to Guelph, Ontario and waited for his Veronica to meet him here—and that’s where his life began. He began working as a bricklayer, where most of the bricks laid in Guelph are still standing here today, including his home. He built more than walls; he built a life full of humour, hard work, and deep connections. Every structure he laid his hands on stood strong, much like the relationships he cherished.
When he wasn’t laying bricks, you’d find him in his garden, talking to his tomatoes like they were old friends, or hunting and fishing with quiet patience. He had a joke and story ready for every occasion, a firm handshake, and a knack for showing up exactly when you needed him. You didn’t just laugh at his jokes—you felt the love behind them.
Survived by his wife, Veronica (nee. Lucietto) for 68 years. Children: Dora (Ted), Dina (Ric—Deceased), Daniela (Steve), Natalino (Karen), and Eraldo Jr (Laurie). Grandchildren: Jason (Melissa), Jessica (Jeff), Rachael, Quinton (Victoria), and Karina. Great grandchildren: Nicole, Dominic, Josslyn, and Julianna.
Also survived by his sister Luigina Goegan (Aldo—Deceased) and many nieces and nephews, countless friends, and a garden that will never quite grow the same.
A private viewing will be held for the family. Following that, we ask you to join us for mass at Holy Rosary Church located on Emma St. on July 2nd at 10:30am. After the mass, we will be travelling to Marymount Catholic Cemetery on Highway 6. From there, please join us for snacks and refreshments at Gilbert MacIntyre and Sons on Dublin St. on the Upper Level.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Guelph General and St. Joseph’s Health Centre for the exceptional care they provided.
In lieu of flowers, plant something, tell someone you love them, maybe go fishing, or donate to a charity of your choice.
Rest easy, Eraldo. You laid a solid foundation—now it’s our turn to build on it.
