Florence was born on November 19, 1931, in Hamilton, Ontario. She will be fondly remembered by her children, Robert Boys (Jan), Diane Fraser (George), Kenneth Boys (Sharon), and Alison Robertson (Peter), as well as her 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
She was the oldest daughter of Kazimierz and Feliksa Kowalczyk (both predeceased), and a loving sister to Edward Kowalczyk (predeceased), Jim Kowalczyk, and Cecile Kowalczyk (predeceased). Florence also loved her many nieces and nephews.
Florence was raised on a tobacco farm near Brantford. Her parents immigrated to Canada from Poland, and she attended a one-room schoolhouse where she learned to speak English.
In the 1950's, Florence belonged to the Guelph Kinette Club and was a past president. Florence was the Head Flower Designer at Eileen's Flowers for 13 years, then worked in the University of Guelph library for over 20 years before her retirement. Later in life, Florence enjoyed ballroom and square dancing and was a member of the Royal City Squares. She also had numerous other hobbies, including barbershop singing with the A Cappella Showcase in Milton, the Overtones in Guelph, and sang in the Holy Rosary Church choir, where she also created floral arrangements for many holidays and special occasions. She belonged to Parents Without Partners, where she made many lifelong friendships.
Florence is known for her love of animals and the many cats, dogs, and budgies she owned over the years, for her beautiful gardens and goldfish pond, her exuberant laugh, and the perfection of her cabbage roll recipe.
