It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our most loving wife, mother, nonna, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend. After a long and arduous battle with Alzheimer disease and with her family at her side, Francesca is now at peace in the arms of our Lord. Born in Santo Roberto, Reggio Calabria, Italy, immigrated to Canada in 1954, Francesca was known for infectious hugs and kisses, warm heart, sense of humour, love of music and passion for feeding her family and friends as there was always plenty of food and extra room at the family “tavola.” For 59 years, she was the devoted and beloved wife of Francesco Ascrizzi. Cherished mother and mother-in-law of Anthony Ascrizzi and Silvana Galati, Antoinette and John Romeo, John and Josie Ascrizzi, Domenica and Joseph Geraghty and Angela and Steve Thomas. Loving nonna of Joseph Galati and Jenna Galati; Nicole, Chris and Charlotte Cardoni; Vanessa and Andy Hyvarinen; Francesco, Julia and Nadia Ascrizzi; Laura and Rachel Geraghty; Myles and Isaiah Thomas. Predeceased by her parents Angela and Francesco Cotroneo and Maria Catalano, and in-laws Antonio and Antonia Ascrizzi. Dearly beloved sister and sister-in-law of Maria and the late Vincenzo Porpiglia of Rome, Italy; the late Giorgio Cotroneo and Angela of Hamilton; the late Antonio Cotroneo of Reggio Calabria, Italy; Luciano and Lidia Cotroneo of Reggio Calabria, Italy; Giuseppina and the late Frank Losak; the late Carmela and Charles Criminisi. Sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Hamilton, St. Catharines, Australia, France, Italy, and U.S.A. The family wishes to extend their sincerest gratitude to the staff of CCAC-Hamilton/Wentworth, CCAC-Guelph, especially Saide Haddad; Lesley George and her staff at Seniors Home Service of Guelph; the many staff of The Elliot Community Seniors Residence, particularly in the Fountain Unit, for their tireless support, care and kindness extended to Francesca. Heartfelt gratitude to Dr. William Ruddock, Pastor Bob, Sherri, Heather, Alison, Marley, Beata, Cheryl, Paulette, Helen, Betty, Meghan, Caitlyn, Salina, Aricelli and Deana. Visitation will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, located at 252 Dublin Street, North, Guelph, Ontario on Sunday, June 7th from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 8th at the Basilica of Our Lady, 28 Norfork St., Guelph, at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Burlington.
