November 26, 1982 – July 31, 2019.
It is with immense sadness that his family announces the sudden and tragic passing of Gordon (Gord) McKinnon on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at the age of 36. He was the beloved husband of Kate Culver, son of Stephanie Townsend-McKinnon and the late Donald McKinnon (2012), and brother of Alexa (Adam Bussiere), Donna (Bob Rioux), Donald (Mona, nee Pelletier) and Duncan. A loving uncle to his nieces and nephews Donny, Madison, Abby and Cameron. Gord was like a son to his mother and father-in-law, Carol Hendra and Patrick Culver.
Gord lived life passionately and left a legacy of what it meant to get the most out of life, even in the very short time he was given. Gord found success in many places, notably in the family business of mineral exploration where he rose to the position of President and CEO of Canadian Orebodies, and also sat on the board of directors of several other companies. Although he thrived in the business world, his proudest achievements came in his personal life – marrying his loving wife Kate, and forming numerous lasting friendships, many from early childhood.
Gord was equally comfortable in a boardroom in Toronto, in an ice fishing hut on Barbers Bay in Timmins, dining at an upscale restaurant, or in the back forty at the Havelock Country Jamboree. Some of his favourite moments were spent on the dock at the family cottage on Lake Kasshabog. He was always able to enjoy any situation, and consistently brightened the days of those in his presence. Gord was fortunate to spend his last weekend with his wife Kate, taking time away together to celebrate their first wedding anniversary. Although his sudden passing leaves his family and friends heartbroken, they are thankful to have such wonderful memories of an incredible man, who did so much for so many in such a short time.
Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon Street, Guelph. A celebration of Gord’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be appreciated by the family. Online donations and condolences can be made at www.gilbertmacintyreandson.com.
