

Carr, Howard D.-- August 28, 1917 - December 10, 2010 Passed away peacefully in his final day, Friday, December 10, 2010, with his beloved wife of 65 years at his side. Howard was in his 94th year. He was the much loved husband of Isabel (Young) Carr of Guelph, and father of Anna Carr of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, and Myra Williams and her husband Robert of Guelph. Howard was the proud grandfather of his cherished grandchild Ellen Carr and her friend Patrick Horton of P.E.I. He was the youngest of Samuel Henry Carr and Lillian (Moore) Carr. His seven siblings, Louise, Sam, Charlotte, Lin,Bill, Ingle and Mary predeceased him. Howard was the dear uncle of many nieces and nephews. Howard was a prairie farmer (stubble-jumper); flying instructor; Spitfire Pilot; graduate (B.Sc.) "Agro". University of Saskatchewan: land appraiser;agricultural economist. He served with the Farm Credit Corporation as policy advisor and with CIDA as farm credit consultant in Uganda, Lebanon, Belize, and Zambia. Howard and Isabel retired to Guelph in 1984 where he volunteered in various community services, until cancer and Alzheimer's disease halted these activities. He was a member of the Guelph-Wellington Men's Club, St. George's Men's Club, and the Royal Canadian Legion branch #234. Private Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Howard's life will take place at St. George's Anglican Church, 99 Woolwich St., Guelph, on Thursday, December 16, 2010 where the family will receive friends prior to the Service from 12 noon - 1 p.m. The Service will follow at 1 p.m. Interment of cremated remains in Woodlawn Cemetery, Guelph. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. George's Anglican Church East Window Fund or to the Alzheimer Society would be appreciated by the family.
