

COTE, John “Jack” Francis D.V.M. Passed away in his 86th year, at Guelph General Hospital, on Monday, February 16, 2015. Beloved husband of Dolores (Des) M. (Desmond) Cote. Loving father of Ann Soltys (Tom) of Listowel, Michael Cote (Barb) of Markdale, Peter Cote (Kristine) of Calgary, and the late Lisa Manchester (late Robert). Dear brother of Rev. Ronald Cote, Joseph Cote (Marie), Rita Mary Cote, Peter Cote (Sandra) and Helen Keegan (Ron). Predeceased by siblings Rev. David Cote, Mary Ann Cote and Paul Cote. Cherished grandfather of Matthew Soltys (Galya), Jonathan Soltys (Erin), Nicole Winter (Derek), Katie Manchester and Kathryn Cote, and great-grandfather of Salix, Claire and Natalie Soltys and Danika, Harper and Mason Winter. Jack followed in his fathers footsteps, graduating in 1951 from Ontario Veterinary College (OVC). He went on to teach veterinary medicine from 1953-1986 at OVC. A noted athlete, Jack was awarded the Wildman Trophy in 1951, and was elected the University of Guelph Hall of Fame for his contribution to the football program. Affectionately known to his students and staff as “Cadillac Jack”, he will be missed by all. The family will receive friends at the Gilbert MacIntyre and Son Funeral Home, Hart Chapel, 1099 Gordon St., Guelph (519-821-5077) on Wednesday, February 18th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and Thursday, February 19th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at Basilica of Our Lady Immaculate, 28 Norfolk St., Guelph, on Friday, February 20th at 11:00 a.m. Burial to happen at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation or to the Welcome In, Drop-in Centre, and Basilica of Our Lady would be appreciated by the family.
